Steep price but worth it,
I own the Contour HD and Contour GPS. For those curious, Contour actually includes two of these mounts with the GPS. It’s a new type of mount that was not initially offered with the older models. The problem with the original flat mount, which was included in the Contour HD and 1080, was that it allowed for no rotation; if you misaligned the mount too bad, you’re stuck with it. Here it is also a strong adhesive except the rotating flat mount allows you to easily change the angle of the camera with a clever lock and unlock switch that needs to be pushed in or out. I can’t say this is worth $40 msrp (as with most Contour accessories they are a bit overpriced), but I do think this mount is clutch for placing the camera in unique angles or areas on the helmets that don’t have enough space to mount. I’ve already come up with some ideas to get some unique perspectives, and if you’re an avid snowboarder or biker this will come in handy.

|worst part about the camera…..,
The Contour HD camera is a pretty slick design, but the flat surface mount is a miserable accessory….
Their original mount (that I know of) at least had a “velcro break-away” system such that if you hit the camera on something (while it’s mounted to your helmet/flat surface) you stood a chance of having the velcro actuate properly and without breaking the mount. Well, mine eventually broke the plastic as well, rendering that mount useless…so I tried this newer version.
This newer version, so far as I can tell, doesn’t even offer a “break-away” plan in the event of bumping the camera. It just breaks, and then you’re stuck having to buy another one for $20 plus shipping (approx.), not to mention finish your ride/trip without the use of a mount for the camera.
I understand it’s all a fairly new and they’re working out the kinks. But I cannot stress to the Contour HD people enough the importance of making a better mount, or at least having this one available for $5 and every sporting good store around. Please folks: Don’t make a crappy accessory that costs next to nothing to manufacture in China (or wherever) part of your profitability plan. We all see through that, and will end up doing the ridiculous tele-tubbie Go Pro thing eventually if we have to.

|Wobble Mount,
Should be called rotating wobble mount… worthless for a helmet mount in my opinion. It has at least 1/4″ of movement in both directions(up down and side to side)…. You can rig it with a donut of foam between the camera and mount to make it more solid…
Not so great….
